2/19/2013 - 2/19/2013 -- Mobility, the seven member popular music ensemble of the USAF Band of the Golden West performed at the world renowned National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), on January 25th in Anaheim California. Performing at the NAMM convention is a way for bands to showcase their talents to an international audience of industry professionals, music fans and aficionados, where some of the best musicians in the world are in attendance. Master Sgt. Preston Keating, the leader, musical director, and drummer of Mobility, led the group's performance on stage at the Hilton Hotel. As the public and professionals left the convention floor at the close of the day, they gathered at stages like the Hilton where they were treated to live performances by a multitude of artists to include an hour long performance by Mobility.
"Excellent news!" said Kevin Johnstone, the NAMM Director of Trade Shows, when he secured Mobility's appearance. After confirming the venue and date with Mobility Johnstone kindly remarked, "Thank you for agreeing to participate! We are looking forward to seeing your performance."
Mobility opened their set with the current hit "Waiting" by Adelle, featuring the vocals of the band's newest member A1C Rebecca Allen. From there the set moved through a variety of popular music chosen from decades of hits. Highlights that earned much applause from the audience included the progressive rock song "Roundabout" as performed by Yes, and a unique arrangement of the Beatles "Eleanor Rigby" as recorded by the Air Force Band of the Pacific stationed at Yakota Air Base, Japan.
"It's truly an honor to be able to perform at the NAMM show. This kind of performance gives us the opportunity to demonstrate the type of professionalism that's found throughout the Air Force, as well as, a chance to learn from some of the most recognized leaders in the music industry." Keating said.
Mobility is one of six performing groups of the larger U. S. Air Force Band of the Golden West located at Travis Air Force Base. Mobility' s upcoming public performances include the Tahoe Snow Fest Parade and the Festival of Whales in Dana Point.
